Yorkdale Shopping Centre

Yorkdale Shopping Centre (or simply Yorkdale, to shoppers in the know) is undeniably one of the city’s favourite malls. In fact, it’s the fourth-largest shopping centre in the country, with over 250 shops and services including luxury retailers such as Versace, Bulgari, Burberry, Cartier, Chanel, Gucci, Prada, Kate Spade, Tory Burch, Moncler and Jimmy Choo. Anchor stores include Holt Renfrew, Nordstrom and Hudson’s Bay.

If you’re looking for the latest and greatest retailers, look no further than Yorkdale.

If you’re looking for the latest and greatest retailers, look no further than Yorkdale. The mall has been a launch pad for a number of brands opening their first Canadian location, including the Apple Store, Crate and Barrel, LOFT, J. Crew, Kate Spade New York, Tesla Motors, Ted Baker, True Religion, Zara Home, Ted Varvati and others.

And there’s more to the mall than just shopping. There’s a Cineplex with regular and VIP screens. You’ll find plenty of dining options, too, from food court favourites to upscale options like Joey’s and Jamie’s Italian, the first North American location of celeb chef Jamie Oliver’s popular spot.

Lineups off the highway attest to the mall’s perennial popularity – luckily a recent renovation added plenty of free parking spots. And of course, there’s easy transit access, too. Yorkdale subway station is connected directly to the mall.

Amesbury Park

A neighbourhood favourite and one of the city’s largest parks, Amesbury Park is right next door. This beautiful 12-hectare swath of green is a go-to destination for families, dog owners, runners and walkers – and locals looking to relax on a bench or a blanket on a warm day.

Located along Lawrence Avenue between Keele and Black Creek, the park has three baseball diamonds (two have lights and are used for night games), a sports field, tennis courts, bocce courts, a basketball court and two children's playgrounds.

It’s host to a number of great events throughout the year, from Victoria Day fireworks to fun Canada Day celebrations.

The Amesbury Community Centre and the Amesbury Sports Complex are right next to the park. The ultra-modern community centre, designed for the evolving needs of this growing neighbourhood, offers preschool programs, kids clubs, basketball, karate, and a variety of dance classes, from square dancing to ballroom.

The Amesbury Sports Complex rounds out the offering with indoor bocce courts, an outdoor hockey rink, a basketball court and a swimming pool. Plus there’s the newly renovated public library, a beautiful space with a variety of programs for people of all ages.

Castlefield Design District

If you’re into home design, you’ll know Castlefield. This décor destination is Toronto’s go-to source for the city's renovators, interior designers and design-savvy homeowners.

You’ll find stores for everything from kitchens to flooring, furniture to lighting. Mainstays such as Ginger’s, Elte and Barrymore anchor an incredible variety of retailers such as ultra-modern, Miami-based Modani, Metropolis Living vintage and custom furniture, and The Door Store, a popular place for beautiful reclaimed doors, vintage hardware, architectural elements and more.

The Dufferin/Eglinton location is easy to get to by car, and all retailers offer plenty of free parking. If you’re looking to truly personalize your home, this is the perfect place.

Transportation central

Whether you’re commuting to downtown, driving up town or leaving town, getting around couldn’t be easier. For drivers, there’s excellent access to both the 401 and the 404, and if you’re taking transit, you pretty much have every option in the book.

There’s access to GO Transit, too. The Weston GO station is close by, with regularly scheduled trains that can get you downtown in minutes.

Heading to the airport or downtown? The Weston UP Express stop is a just a couple of minutes away, and will get you to your destination faster than the subway, the bus, or even your car.

The area will host several new transit options, as well, once construction has been completed. It will have a stop on the Crosstown LRT, as well as a new SmarTrack station.

SmarTrack will be designed to ease pressure on existing subway lines, serving Liberty Village, CityPlace, the East DonLands, Mississauga and Markham, and making life easier for commuters no matter where they’re heading.

York University
York University, located a quick drive or transit trip away, is Canada’s third-largest university.

It has over 50,000 students, 7,000 faculty and staff, and 11 faculties including the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies, the Faculty of Science, Lassonde School of Engineering, Schulich School of Business, Osgoode Hall Law School, Glendon College, the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Health, the Faculty of Environmental Studies, the Faculty of Graduate Studies, the School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design, and 28 research centres.

York University is home to the country’s only space engineering program, and our oldest film school, which is widely considered to be one of the best in Canada.
